Mechanical components for Robotics

Mechanical components are patrs used in the assembly of mechanical systems. Mechanical
Components covers a wide range of items and devices designed to handle, induce, or drive
mechanical systems. In almost all cases, mechanical components were manufactured to be part of a
greater system, and do not have the ability to function on their own. The mechanical components
family includes the following products: bearings and bushings, belts and pulleys, chains and
sprockets, clutches and brakes, couplings, collars and universal joints, enclosures, fans and
electronic cooling, gears, industrial heaters and heating elements, industrial tools, limit switches,
mechanical fasteners, power transmission (mechanical), process equipment, pulleys and belts,
seals, solenoids, springs, and switches.

Common mechanical component:

Wheels:

A wheel is a circular device that is capable of rotating on its axis, facilitating movement or
transportation whilst supporting a load (mass), or performing labour in machines.

Machinery Belts:

Belt - a looped strip of flexible material, used to mechanically link two or more rotating shafts. They
may be used as a source of motion, to efficiently transmit power, or to track relative movement. Belts
are looped over pulleys. In a two pulley system, the belt can either drive the pulleys in the same
direction, or the belt may be crossed, so that the direction of the shafts is opposite. As a source of
motion, a conveyor belt is one application where the belt is adapted to continually carry a load
between two points.

Mechanical Arms:

A robotic arm is a robot manipulator, usually programmable, with similar functions to a human arm.
The links of such a manipulator are connected by joints allowing either rotational motion (such as in
an articulated robot) or translational (linear) displacement. The links of the manipulator can be
considered to form a kinematic chain.

Sprigs:

A spring is an elastic object used to store mechanical energy. Springs are usually made out of
hardened steel. Small springs can be wound from pre-hardened stock, while larger ones are made
from annealed steel and hardened after fabrication. Some non-ferrous metals are also used
including phosphor bronze and titanium for parts requiring corrosion resistance and beryllium
copper for springs carrying electrical current.

Plastic bodies and seatings:

plastics are used in lots of different ways in everyday life, such as electrical switches, kettles,
lawnmower parts, toys, drink bottles and carrier bags.
Plastics are strong, light and do not rust or biodegrade. These proprties make them suitable as a
robot's  body.
