Electronic circuit and boards for Robotics
General description of a basic electronic main circuit for a robot:

explanation of the diagram:

Every board has a power connector which is usually followed by a circuit protection unit which
protects the board from high voltage or inverted power signs(+ and -). The power then passes
power supply management which converts voltages and currents into suitable for the board
components.

The hart of the circuit is a micro-controller. It processes all inputs signals according to the program
which is burned into it. The inputs are received from the ports. Some of them are analog and some
digital. Those which are analog have to be digitalized through an analog to digital converter since
most micro-controllers have only digital inputs.

External communication port makes it possible for the board to communicate with a computer.
Usually with RS232 or USB protocol. The communication is needed for programming or receiving
statistics.

Buttons and switches in the circuit are also considered as inputs to the micro-controller. They help
us determine preferences or reset the circuit when necessary.

The micro-controller some times uses external memory component. This depends on the amount of
data needed for particular implementation and on the amount of data that can be stored inside the
micro-controller.

After the micro-controller processes the inputs it outputs data. The time of processing depends on
the speed of the micro-controller, the frequency of the oscillator, the amount of data and the
complexity of the program.

The micro-controller outputs digital signals, they are outputted through digital to analog converter if
analog output is required, current driver if high current is required and rilays if  high voltage is
required.

A board may also have LCD screen or a 7segment components which are controlled through the
micro-controller and show data or failures.

A board may also have a speech component which voice is recorded on it. The micro-controller can
address segments in the component and operate the desired segment. This options requires to
connect speakers to the board.

The board some times has RF unit for a remote communication or remote control aplications.

electronic boards:

Description: an electronic board is driving an electro-mechanical device. The board is connected to
all sensors and motors. Besides sensors and motors the board connects to every device in the
robot in order to operate it or receive signals from it.

Uses: every electro-mechanical device.
